N-Methylmaleimide is a white to pale yellow crystalline powder with a melting point of 94–101 °C. At room temperature, it is soluble in dimethylformamide (DMF) and dimethylacetamide (DMAc), slightly soluble in acetone and benzene, and insoluble in water. It is an important novel resin-modifying monomer that can significantly raise the glass transition temperature and decomposition temperature of ABS, PVC, PMMA and other engineering plastics, and improve their processability and mechanical properties. It can be widely used as an intermediate for dyes, pharmaceuticals and functional polymer compounds.
